Postoperative Indications

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Apply ice for the first 72 hours, 20 minutes every hour around the nose, without wetting or pressing the nasal splint.

  • When in bed, raised headboard with a few pillows for the first week.

  • Avoid heat, sun. Do not smoke. Don't take aspirin.

  • Do not wear glasses until after the month. Use contact lenses or a protective splint if necessary.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

  • Absolute rest for the first 24 hours, then relative rest for the first week.

  • No physical effort during the first weeks. No blows or manipulations to the nose.

  • Physical exercises can be restarted one month after the operation.

 

FEEDING:

  • Liquid to soft diet the first day. Normal healthy diet from the second day. Good hydration.

  • Avoid very hard, hot, spicy, spicy foods and alcohol during the first month.

 

BATHROOM AND CLEANING:

  • Avoid getting the nasal splint wet until it is removed. Shower from the neck down.

  • Clean the incisions with a cotton swab soaked in hydrogen peroxide and apply antibiotic cream.

  • The nose will drain for a few days. Use and change the nasal mustache gauze as necessary.

 

USUAL EVOLUTION:

  • The inflammation increases until the 4th day. It will go down largely during the first month.

  • Nasal obstruction is normal for a few weeks. Use the nasal cleansing spray for the first month.

  • It is normal to feel the tip swollen and numb. This will decrease as time goes by.

  • Control 1: Close to day 5 OP. General control and removal of plugs if applicable.

  • Control 2: Close to day 10 PO. Removal of splint and external stitches.

  • Control 3: After 1 month PO. General evaluation.

 

PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU PRESENT:

  • Redness, increasing pain, purulent drainage, fever greater than 38°C.

  • Nausea, vomiting, hives, shortness of breath, or diarrhea after taking your medications.

  • In case of emergency, go to the nearest medical center and let us know for follow-up.
